Problems with WSS 3.0 Search and Timer Services
Hi,
I have a Windows 2K3 Server SP2 with SQL 2005 Express running WSS 3.0.
The server crashed unexpectedly a few days ago (cause unknown) after running
fine for 6 months. Since restarting, I am having multiple WSS problems.
Search not returning results for new content added to lists and libraries
since the restart.
Event log shows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
Event Category: Search service
Event ID: 10038
Date: 28/06/2007
Time: 15:34:06
User: N/A
Computer: INTRANET
Description:
Query machine 'INTRANET' has been taken out of rotation due to this error:
The system cannot find the file specified. 0x80070002. It will be retried
in 15 seconds. Component: 15fa9d9a-78c9-4d95-aae8-39e605e785d9
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
Event Category: Search service
Event ID: 10040
Date: 28/06/2007
Time: 15:34:06
User: N/A
Computer: DEV-INTRANET
Description:
The last query machine has been taken out of rotation. Check previous event
logs to determine cause. Propagation may be necessary. Component:
15fa9d9a-78c9-4d95-aae8-39e605e785d9
I am also having issues in getting the Timer service to start. This is
affecting Task Assignment notifications and Backup/Restore.
Event log shows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7031
Date: 28/06/2007
Time: 15:30:31
User: N/A
Computer: DEV-INTRANET
Description:
The Windows SharePoint Services Timer service terminated unexpectedly. It
has done this 3 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in
30000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
Clearly, something catastrophic has happened, any suggestions on how I might
resolve these issues?

RE: Problems with WSS 3.0 Search and Timer Services
Fixed by repairing WSS 3.0 installation via Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs.
