SPS 2003 Searching PDF files

  1. Default SPS 2003 Searching PDF files

    Hello,

I have an SPS 2003 portal site where I have stored pdf files (version
8). I only have the Adobe IFilter version 6 installed and setup. It
seems like my pdf files are getting indexed but my search does not
return any results for pdf files. It does not search the pdf files at
all. Is it even possible to search Ver 7 and Ver 8 pdf files using SPS
    2003?

    Thanks for the help
    Ashok

The problem isn't with SPS 2003. The problem is with the Adobe IFilter
which only works with Acrobat versions up to 6.0.

There's a rumour that if you install Adobe Acrobat 8.0 on the server
that you will then have an IFilter which handles 7.0 and 8.0. The reason
is that Adobe Acrobat 8.0 includes a built-in IFilter which is why Adobe
are in no rush to make a stand-alone one. But so far that's just a
    unconfirmed rumour.

Thanks for the answer. I have installed the latest version of Adobe
Reader on the server and the search still does not search through PDF
files. Please let me know if anyone else has tried this or solved this
    issue.

    Thanks
    Ashok
