Search Next link returns no results - Sharepoint

I'm experiencing the exact problem you outlined below; however, my version
adds a little complexity.

I am in a Shared Services farm environment, and this issue only occurs on
two of the child portal sites. When searching from the parent portal or from
other child portal sites, I do not experience this issue.

Have you found any additional information?
