Default user names not changing on team sites.

Set up:
Moss 2007/WSS3, importing names from AD - incrumental every day and full
every week.

Problem:
User changes surname - changed in AD and full import has been done. Portal
shows changes fine. My Site show new name. Team site still shows old name.
I can add the user using their new name and sharepoint find it, but as soon
as i validate, it changes back to the old name.

The only way i have found to solve this is to delete the user from the all
people list and then re-add them to the groups they were in, but this is very
time consuming and there is always the risk they they have unique permissions
set somwhere which will get missed.

Please can someone answer this question, i have tried so many times to find
the answer and i'm suer it shouldn't be this difficult!

cheers

Hi,
please instal the latest hot fix package for WSS 3.0/MOSS2007 from August.

Share point stores the user names in a SQL table and I assume it does not
get updated after renaming user in AD and re-running profile import.
I had similar problem after renaming groups.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean this update:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924931

? as it doesn;t appear to have anything to do with my problem!

Hi,
I actually meant MOSS 2003 all the time - if you have Sharepoint 2003, it's
different story.
Depending on which SP you have installed, deploy the latest post-Service
Pack hot fix package.

If the problem was known then a fix is in one of the the updates.

? I am using MOSS 2007 (SharePoint 2007/WSS v3). We have the latest
service pack. I'm not sure if this is an error that will be fixed by a
hotfix or if it is just the way the system works?

Hi,
There was only one SP for MOSS/WSS 3.0 so far.
I meant post SP1 hotfix packages.
Do you have latest post SP1 hotfix package for WSS 3.0?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956248

It's worth to isntall them as they fix many issues.

I did a test and created AD user, logged to team site and my site, then
renamed this AD user
results:
>I had to log in with old name
>In the "welcome" I still had old name
>On my site new name was displayed

So it looks like Sharepoint has some problems with mapping renamed AD
account to Sharepoint user.
Try with migrating user, you'll find all details here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953131

Hope this helps!

Anna
