| Hi all, I want to install the WSS 3.0 on a W2K3 x64 Server (English), but I have some questions that need help before do. 1. Do the WSS 3.0 build-in SQL Express have the 4GB limit? 2. How to install the WSS 3.0 on Driver E (My Driver C only 4GB free space, but driver E have 200GB) 3. Can the MS SQL 2005 and the WSS 3.0 build-in MS SQL SQL Express are all on same machine (I don't want to buy the SQL Licience, but my company have some big application that using the MS SQL 2005 on other server, and bought the SQL Licensed, just the WSS 3.0 user is more than the big application user, 100 (WSS) vs 20 (big application that need SQL Server 2005), so it is why I ask this question, since my company only two server and both as DC, the SQL Server 2005 in DC1, I plan install the WSS 3.0 on DC2, but I thinking if one day the DC1 go down, then I need install the SQL server 2005 on DC2, so the DC 2 will have two SQL (SQL Server 2005 + WSS 3.0's SQL Express) 4. I am using Englsih version of W2K3 x64, but in the non-Unicode page of the Regional and Language page I change the page from US English to Chinese Taiwan, so my server can full support folder name and files name that by Chinese Taiwan ... but all of the WSS 3.0 User want to using the Chinese version WSS 3.0, so ... do I can install the Chinese Taiwan version of WSS 3.0 SP1 on the English windows? Or can't, or install the English version of WSS 3.0 SP1 than install the multi-language interface (If so, where I can download this mulit- lnaguage interface? Install for client or in server or both side?) Too many questions, I am newsbie on WSS ... Thank you of your time. | Q1: No. The limit is only with the version that comes built-in to MOSS 2007. The WSS 3.0 Windows Internal Database has no limit in db size. Q2: You can't. Parts of the installation will always be in your boot drive - typically C: You can if running SQL Server (full) specify that databases are stored in a different drive. With the Windows Internal Database being used, that will be installed on C: with its databases there, but they can (after installation) be moved to another drive. See this WSS FAQ item for how to do that move http://wss.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lis...rm.aspx?ID=939 Q3: They can be. In fact if you already have SQL Server 2005 installed on that server and do a basic installation it will still install a copy of the built-in db system and won't use the existing SQL Server 2005. It's of course stupid normally but in your scenario it would work. Note that if you are planning on having the WSS 3.0 server as a DC, you must make it a DC before you specify the Application Server role (including IIS) and thus before you install WSS 3.0. Q4: I have no idea *specifically* about the Chinese version. The basic answer is that you can install a foreign language version of WSS 3.0 on an English version of the operating system. You can also install the English version of WSS 3.0 and then install the Lnaguage pack. The difference between the two methods is that the Administration site (and thus error messages) are in the language of the WSS 3.0 installation (and thus not in the language of the language pack). Also the default site is in the language of the WSS 3.0 installation. The language pack downloads require care. Make sure that you select the language you want ***then Confirm your choice*** and only then do the download. Otherwise you will have downloaded the English language language pack! You'll find the WSS 3.0 64 bit language packs here. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en you then need to install the Language Pack SP1 which is here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Mike Walsh WSS FAQ http://www.wssfaq.com / http://wss.collutions.com no private questions please Jimmy Chan ++ wrote: > Hi all, > > I want to install the WSS 3.0 on a W2K3 x64 Server (English), but I have > some questions that need help before do. > > 1. | Mike Walsh, First, thank you so much of your kindly and detail answer and help. I now understand more WSS 3.0, but still have a one more questions. About Questions 2 and your answer 2 ... Now I know it will install to driver C, but can move the MS SQL to other driver ... Then I am other questions base on that .... How about the Document Library? Do the document like jpeg, doc, xls, ppt etc all same in driver C:?? Or I can make them move to other driver? About Q4: I thinking I much better make a testing environment before make it on the production environment. Thank you very much and wish you have a nice day. | On your Q2 follow-up. *Everything* that is in the databases gets moved. Documents stored in the databases are all in the databases. The only things that are not in the databases are the installation files and similar files added later. You can regard all content you add to a site via the User Interace / Browser as being stored in the databases. OK?
