| Hi, We are dealing with a large petrol supplier company which has petrol stations in cities, towns as well as remote villages. The petrol stations may or may not have a broadband connections. They have to synchronize their local data with central server data and also receive latest updates from the central server. They have databases at the petrol stations, but we are not sure which DBMS is being used. What options do we have to achieve this? Any third party tools are available for doing this? Thanks, Yash |

Basically, you tell you want to synchronize a completely inhomogene system (in the worst of cases) in safe and timely fashion. If there was a generic solution to that, you would have read about the man that suddenly became richer than bill gates. There are various synchronization solutions available, but in order to even know the direction you want to go, you would have to define a lot more restrictions and requirements, info about required availability, access statistics, traffic volume and the likes. This seriously sounds like a case for professional consulting, rather than a short email in a newsgroup. Regards, Stefan |

You could use custom files, remote DB connections, Queuing. Even just sending files there are many options: custom flat files, EDI, XML, Spreadsheet formats, HTML, ... And there are just too many third party tolls to even start mentioning those. Ed (funny I left a position not long ago with a company doing the same thing you describe. If you'd like, contact me in email.) |
