| Call for Papers for Workshop on: SIX SIGMA in SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Workshop Date: Nov. 17, 2008 Workshop Location: Munich, Germany Workshop URL: http://www.dasma.org/contray/html/ve.../workshop.html Deadline for submissions: Oct. 5, 2008 Submission via E-mail to: metrikon2008sixsigma@yahoo.de This workshop is held as part of the joint IWSM / Metrikon / Mensura Conference (see http://www.metrikon.de) Call for "Six Sigma in Software Engineering" Papers --------------------------------------------------- The "Six Sigma in Software Engineering" Workshop at the IWSM/MetriKon 2008 will be a one-day workshop oriented towards experiences in applying Six Sigma methodology in the field of software engineering with a strong focus on associated measuring aspects. Six Sigma is a methodology and toolbox for problem solving and processes improvement applied in manufacturing environments. Since, with increasing maturity of software engineering organizations the focus shifts from introducing industry best practices to optimizing the implemented procedures and tools, there is a strong interest to use this concept or parts of this concept. The workshop goal is to establish a forum for exchange of experiences and expectations on Six Sigma in software engineering environment. We want to share successful Six Sigma implementations, discuss benefits and challenges of Six Sigma projects, but also address expectations on the Six Sigma methodology. By bringing diverse views together, we strive to advance the state of the art on this important topic. Contributions on practical Six Sigma applications should address the following topics: - To which product or process was Six Sigma applied (Requirements Engineering, Review process, ...)? - What was the business case or ROI of the Six Sigma project? - How could Six Sigma help to improve the product / process? - What was the reason Six Sigma was (or was not) selected as methodology? - What are lessons learned from the application of Six Sigma in software engineering? Contributions on conceptual aspects regarding Six Sigma in software engineering may focus on: - What are challenges from the application of Six Sigma in software engineering? - Which aspects or terms need reinterpretation when applying Six Sigma in software engineering? - How do Six Sigma and CMMI relate? - What is the assumed application area for Six Sigma methodology? The workshop encompasses, but is not limited to, examples where Six Sigma was successfully applied. Also approaches or models where the concept was only considered to be applied will be relevant. The experiences should help identifying strengths and limitations of Six Sigma applied to software engineering. How to Submit ------------- Position Papers must be submitted electronically by mail to metrikon2008sixsigma@yahoo.de . The length of the Position Papers should range from 2 to 5 pages. Possible formats are .doc or .pdf. Submission Deadline ------------------- Submission Deadline for Position Papers is Oct. 05, 2008. This deadline is hard and non-negotiable. Notification Deadline ---------------------- We will send a notification of acceptance no later than October 17, 2008. The participants may send a final version of their position paper no later than November 10, 2008 to metrikon2008sixsigma@yahoo.de . These versions will be basis for the workshop proceedings. Workshop Organization --------------------- Dr. Ralf Russ, Siemens AG, Germany Sebastian Schunk, Siemens AG, Germany The workshop is organized as part of the joint IWSM 2008 - 18th International Workshop on Software Measurement MetriKon 2008 - DASMA Metrik Kongress Mensura 2008 - International Conference of Software Process and Product Measurement Please address questions to: metrikon2008sixsigma@yahoo.de |
