| I've been doing VRML/X3D for more than a decade now. I always thought that by now we would have achieved a few basic needs before web 3d can fly. These are :- 1) A a strong browser which works on PC, Mac & Linux. 2) An external SAI which fully exposes the browser to javascript on a web page. 3) Works with IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera. 4) Scalable pricing which is free to the end user and affordable to the web site developer. (ideally free open source). The 4 items are the minimum for VRML/X3D to be mainstream. Can anyone see any signs of this ? It seems like Octaga is the closest on cross platform but the external there SAI is not cross platform. Is Octaga any good ? Steve |

| I have tried Octaga but it did not work with my site, unfortunately. I wish there were a good VRML/X3D browser, I believe that it could revive 3D on the web. It would be especially good if the browser was built-in like when Cosmo was integrated in Netscape; this is how I learned of VRML many moons ago. If users don't have to download a plugin it would help quite a lot. Should we suggest this to Firefox? steve wrote: > I've been doing VRML/X3D for more than a decade now. > > I always thought that by now we would have achieved a few basic needs > before web 3d can fly. > > These are :- > > 1) A a strong browser which works on PC, Mac & Linux. > > 2) An external SAI which fully exposes the browser to javascript on a > web page. > > 3) Works with IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera. > > 4) Scalable pricing which is free to the end user and affordable to the > web site developer.
