PlayStation 4 - Xbox 720 - Wii 2

This is a discussion on PlayStation 4 - Xbox 720 - Wii 2 within the xbox forums in Other Technologies category; I don't think the third console should be called the "Xbox 720". If the company wants to still do things for 720p and 1080i graphics on all its games, the new machine should be called "Xbox HD" or something....

I think people are calling the next generation system 720 just because what
else can they really call it? It's not as simple as PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, MS
will give it some completely new came, Xbox (Whatever), We have Xbox, and
Xbox 360, and for now people will call the next system Xbox 720 until MS
says otherwise. You know Nintendo called the Wii the Revolution their for
quite some time before the name Wii came out. So Even Nintendo can name the
the console just about anything. The closest they went was NES to SNES, but
after that, it was completely different names. Right now I like to call
Nintendo's next system the Wii HD. Thinking goes, the Wii really isn't
much better then the Gamecube, but with a new fancy controller. Well the
next system will again be a bit better, with having HD graphic's while
everything else is pretty much the same. Well then have Mario HD, and Mario
Cart HD, and so on. Sony is simple, PS4. I would guess that system would
have a faster Blu-Ray drive in it, and better all around everything else.

Okay, what are they going to call the third generation Xbox? The fourth
generation Xbox? They can't keep using multiples of 360. That would really
look weird.

Why was it called a "360" to begin with? In any case, if it was a case of
plucking a figure out of the arse of some MS exec, maybe they can call it the
Xbox (insert plucked out word) instead of using a numeric identifier.

Thing is, will there be another Xbox? Hasn't MS lost enough dough on these
things as it is?
