| I am trying to connect my xbox360 through a router, and I can't get my internet to work if the router is hooked up. My internet on my computer works fine until I put it through the router. I have Windows XP and the router I am using is Shohoware Broadband Secure cable/DSL Router NBG800. I have high speed internet. I have never used a router before but this is the second one that I have tried and I can't the internet to connect through it. Help!! |

However I will try and help. You will need to answer a few questions first. 1: When you say you have have "high speed internet" Who and where is your provider? 2: See #1 ![]() Basically I am wondering how you connect to the inet, DSL modem etc. There is the possibility that you already have a router and do not know it. Then by installing another router (the sohoware one) on top of what you have, its messing things up. I will not not go into detail until others and or yerself interject ![]() JiM |

It looks like you have a cable modem. if that is the case the cable modem may also be a a router. As I noted in my first response the two routers may not like each other. If the cable modem is also a router you can hook the 360 into it. But that bypasses yer sohoware router, witch on a quick look is a decent router. Pricey but nice. Long story short. Call 1-877-213-1053 (8am-5pm) man that sucks - normal business hours ... hehe. JiM |

| I just called my cable/internet provider, and he told me that my cable modem is not a router. He said for me to make sure I unpower the cable modem so it recognizes the router. I am going to try that and hope it works. "JiM" wrote: > lbeham wrote: > > I have my internet through Armstong Cable. It is the Zoom 500 internet. > > > > Did a quick look up on Armstrong Zoom 500. To get your Router working it needs to be setup correctly. DSL requires pppoe, right now your PC is setup to use pppoe to connect to your DSL modem and into the Internet. Instead what you want is your PC connected to a Local Area Network (LAN), The Same will be for your 360. On the other hand your Router has to be setup for a DSL connection using pppoe, you also will then need your Login Name and Password that you use for this. Those won't be used for the PC or 360 as they would be on your LAN, but your Router will need it, Your Router will be what logs into your ISP though your DSL modem. You need to read your Directions for the Router, a lot of them these days have install programs that will help you though the process. If you don't have that. The easiest way to start out is to Unplug your DSL modem from the PC, Plug your Router into the PC into Port 1, usually there's 4 wired ports, and plug your DSL modem into the correct port on your Router, It may say WAN. You do know your ISP Login Name and Password right? Ok anyway you need to go into your Control Panel and into Network settings and start a new Network a LAN, follow the direction it's pretty simple. When done you should then be able to access your Router. Open a Web Browser and enter the Router ID. Normally it's 192.168.0.1, that's one of the Reserved IP area's saved for this type of thing, there's also 10.0.0.1 for example also. If your LAN is working correctly, your Browser should open your Routers Login page up and it should ask for a login name and password for your Router. Default is normally admin and password is nothing at all, After that it all depends on the router you have. You should be able to figure it out enough to set it up for a DSL connection, which will get you to a setup page for your ISP login name and password. Once that's setup, open another tab on the browser and see if you can get onto the Internet someplace! If so, your good to good. Plug your 360 in and also set it up to connect to your LAN. It's pretty simple. Your 360 should get all the other info it needs from your Router, that your router got from your ISP. Go and test your 360's Network connection from the system blade. At the bottom it should say OPEN, it it says something like Moderate or Strict, your router is not passing all the data. Go back to your Router settings and look for UPnP and turn it ON, and save and try again and see if that fixes it. If so your done, if not, you have to get into more advanced things like Port Forwarding. |
