Default Xbox consumes all the bandwidth

Hello everyone,

I've got a xbox and a computer connected to a router. When I start playing
the xbox consumes all the bandwidth and it's not possible to connect to the
Internet from the computer. Is it possible to limit the amount of the
bandwidth the xbox takes away?

JaromirD,

The easiest way to do it is going to be through configuration on your
router. I am HOPING you are running a Cisco product (Linksys) because
you can limit the amount of bandwidth a particular port has on the
router. Which model are running on?

I wish I was.

Unfortunately it's probably the cheapest model on the market: TP-Link
TL-R402M http://www.tp-link.com/products/product_des.asp?id=18#
I tried to find an option in its software that could do that but I was out
of luck (maybe not smart enough to recognize it).

Dont feel so bad ... I don't think bandwith allocation is a feature of most
home routers. I have several here (none of them Linksys unfortunately) but
the ones I have do not have such a feature as far as I know. Perhaps the
problem is related to a small set of specific games on the Xbox?? Are some
games more bandwidth hungry than others?

Well, I don't feel bad; I just tried to be ironic but apparently it didn't
work (English is not my mother tongue) :-). The truth is neither router,
nor xbox and computer are mine but it's irrelevant for the problem I try to
solve.

As far as I know the same thing happens every time the children of my
sister-in-law (it's she who asked me for help) start gaming.
