Francesco (& others interested): It looks like I have eliminated most of the Funcky calls (there are about six remaining) with wrappers and re-coding but, in discussions with my new client, we have both agreed to remove *all* the Funcky 'calls' from one of the simpler apps and get it working properly in protected mode in Clipper/Blinker, *then* quickly translate that app to console mode in xHarbour. All of the apps are of the style @ nRow,nCol Say "stuff" and Gets, and Prompts, etc. With a previous client, I have converted three major complete Clipper/Blinker apps to windows recently (using HMG), so I know the problems, frustrations, and 'head-scratching' involved. These new apps from my new client are completely undocumented and more than 15 years old ! It looks like the last compilation/linking was done in the late '90s . All of the six gun store-related apps can each be done separately without impacting each other. They range from Cash Register apps, to Utility apps, to pure Database apps, to Report apps (using R&R -- which I use all the time), but are all run separately from a Windows XP Desktop on various machines in the building. The longer term prospect is 'windowizing' all the apps -- *after* first getting rid of the sludge from 15-18 years ago. Very interesting project which I'll be digging into real deeply over the next few weeks: I'll be replacing the Funcky-Menu system with my own Clipper menu system and colorizing. Also, will be eliminating 'Mouse'-related stuff (which wasn't used much anyway). The 'mice' will of course come back when 'windowizing'. I have always included 'buttons' with an associated Function Key for my apps: e.g., "Finish" & <F10> as a caption of a button. It would be nice to move directly to xHarbour without the intermediate move thru Clipper, but I've decided it is too fraught with danger to do so. So, *first* get it operational in Clipper, *then* move quickly to xHarbour. I'll let y'all know what happens as I progress ! Thanks for the query. -Mel Smith |
