OT: Viewing 'Shortcut to an xxx app'

This is a discussion on OT: Viewing 'Shortcut to an xxx app' within the xharbour forums in Programming Languages category; Dear Friends: An OT subject but don't know where I can get a quick answer to the following: I have on my machine several 'ShortCut' .lnk files sent to me by another client. Is there an easy way to view the details of these 'ShortCut .lnk' files on *my* computer (i.e., those screens that are available when you right-click on the shortcut, and click on Properties) even though the details of the .lnk file have no relationship to my own machine ?? TIA, Mel Smith...

Default OT: Viewing 'Shortcut to an xxx app'

Dear Friends:

An OT subject but don't know where I can get a quick answer to the
following:

I have on my machine several 'ShortCut' .lnk files sent to me by another
client.

Is there an easy way to view the details of these 'ShortCut .lnk' files
on *my* computer (i.e., those screens that are available when you
right-click on the shortcut, and click on Properties) even though the
details of the .lnk file have no relationship to my own machine ??

TIA,

Mel Smith

[Cancel] won't allow you to open them on your machine in the usual
way, make your notes, and not require you to correct the link?

David:

I guess I'd better *think* a little more before posting questions ((

Yes, I ultimately used Explorer to navigate to those shortcut files,
then right-clicked on them and saw the ShortCut displayed (altho
abbreviated) -- and made my notes )

Thank you !

Why? How else are we going to find out the latest episode of the
"Perils of Mel Smith"?

If it is ever necessary, there is VB code and WinDoze API to both
create and edit .LNK files, by the way... I misunderstood what
you were looking for.

David:

... and there *are* 'perils' when I'm allowed to put a pencil to code !

Atho I'm not too sophisticated with Clipper/xHarbour, I still am good at
'grunt' conversion work. I guess its because I have done a lot of it and
have learned a lot by being 'bruised' by my experience.

btw, while this 'GUN' work is going on (and I've finished this
afternoon with the new Menu system), I also have an Internet Explorer-based
xHarbour app processing a series of 21000 webpages from a
national/international sports site, parsing the downloaded 'source files'
webpages (each is approx 61K in size), picking out the info I need, and
putting it away in several databases. At this moment, I'm in the second run
and am at about the 8000th page. About 13000 to go ))

Wow, I'm multitasking !!

Thanks to you folks and Ron Pinkas for the guidance !
