Excel 2003 XML spreadsheet - will it load into Office12?

  1. Default Excel 2003 XML spreadsheet - will it load into Office12?

    Hi,

Simple question. Will Excel spreadsheets created as XML Spreadsheets for /
in Office 2003 load into Office12 (i.e. the next release of Office, coming
    later this year)?

I understand that the new file format uses a different XML structure and
zips the XML. But will there still be an option to load the previous format
of XML spreadsheets created in Office 2003?

    Hope so!

    TIA,

    Pete

Hi, it seems there is any kind of compatibility. Spreadsheet ML (the base
for XP and 2003 XML-files) has nothing to do (it has, but it is not
important) with the new fileformat (this is - in short - a couple of files
zipped in an archive), but it seems there are many posibilities to save a
    workbook in other formats.

    Hi,

Thanks for replying to my question. But I'm afraid I don't understand your
answer! Will 2003 XML Spreadsheets load into Office 12 - a simple yes or no
(ja oder nein, bitte!) is what I was hoping for!

    Thanks!

    Pete

It's difficult for people to answer questions about an unreleased product
with certainty. But if you read the FAQ at

    http://www.microsoft.com/office/prev...lefaq.mspx#ERH

    it says

"All of the XML formats available in previous releases of Microsoft Office
will be fully supported in Microsoft Office "12"."

Is that a yes or no answer? :-)

an addition: I wrote in my first answer "it seems" instead of "yes", because
it is a "yes" in the beta-release.

Thank you to Dr. Pfeifer and to Peter Jamieson. I'm pleased that it seems
the answer is 'Yes', appreciate Office 12 is still in beta, and apologise if
my reply to Dr. Pfeifer's message seemed impatient - that was certainly not
my intention, and I apologise if it is the case. I appreciate the time you
both spent in helping me - thank you.
